Congratulations on taking the first step toward becoming your best self. Finding the right therapist for you is one of the most important ways to ensure your success on this journey, so let me explain a little about how we could work together.

In the years I've been working in private practice, I've realized that not every therapist is right for every type of client. During this time, I've specialized most in helping clients who are exploring their gender identity, those who are figuring out the ins and outs of nonmonogamous relationships, and those who are navigating the complex issues related to race and cultural identity. I treat individuals, families, and partnered-up folks (whether coupled, throupled, or any other partnership configuration). That said, I definitely still do plenty of work with those who need help coping with various mental health issues, as well as those issues that just pop up during daily life.

I use a blend of different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of my clients, but I primarily use the Internal Family Systems therapy model, which I feel displays the best understanding of the interconnectedness between current issues, past trauma, and epigenetic trauma that various populations face. This is especially true with regard to the issues of race and cultural identity. As a Latina myself, I know there are cultural differences that are seemingly small but greatly affect the the daily lives of BIPOC, not to mention the view of one's family unit both past and present. There are certain cultural competencies that come from lived experience and can't be learned in a classroom. The IFS model also does a great job of addressing the complicated journey of deconstructing gender and finding your place on that spectrum.

In therapy, we will work together to establish what you're looking to accomplish and how to best achieve that. I believe therapy is meant to help guide you toward your goals, not mine. You're not your trauma or your struggles, nor are you a vehicle for others' expectations (especially not a therapist's expectations). I work with you to help you find the resources that already exist within yourself so you can move forward into whatever future is best for you.
